I (Brandy) am a chemical engineer with prior industrial formulations experience.  I may be a chemical engineer, but most of my work experience is in the field of chemistry (organic synthesis, analytical chemistry, biochemistry) – I have worked at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta and at the Cancer Research Institute in Tempe, AZ.  At one point, I thought I wanted a PhD in organic synthesis, so I have also taken a significant number of graduate level courses in chemistry.

Then, I started working in the formulations department at BASF in Research Triangle Park, NC and found my passion!

My husband, Justin, holds a PhD in medicinal chemistry and organic synthesis, obtained under the direction of the renowned Dr. G.R. Pettit at the Cancer Research Institute in Tempe, AZ.  Justin, already proficient in instrumental analysis, isolation, and synthesis, is currently working at Colorado State University where he studies the differences between diseased and uninfected tissue cultures using analytical instrumentation (a field known as metabolomics).  Justin is a jack and master of all trades.  Car repairman, fish tank plumber, dog whisperer, current events and foreign affairs buff, he’s also an indispensible advisor for Return to Eden Cosmetics.

With such a solid scientific foundation, we understand the ingredients that are being used in the products – both how they are made and how they work.  We don’t rely on an outside expert to create the formula, we make the formulas ourselves, and we are the experts.  Each formula is created on the basis of extensive literature research for each and every ingredient used, and each ingredient serves a crucial purpose in the product.
