A Note About Anti-Oxidants
Return to Eden Cosmetics face lotions and creams are loaded with anti-oxidants. We all know that anti-oxidants are good for us, but...
what exactly is an anti-oxidant (and why do we need them)?
During the course of living, our bodies are constantly producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) through normal metabolism of oxygen. ROS consists of everything from oxygen ions to hydroxyl radicals and are VERY reactive/energetic.
Our bodies are also wonderfully created healing instruments
and naturally produce and acquire anti-oxidants in the form of vitamins (Vitamins A, C, E, etc.), enzymes, and other chemicals (glutathione, Coenzyme Q-10, etc.) to fight these Reactive Oxygen Species. The anti-oxidants react with ROS molecules absorbing their destructive energy and rendering them less energetic. Of course, this is an act of self-sacrifice as the anti-oxidant is also changed in the process (oxidized into a different stable molecule that is no longer capable of acting as an anti-oxidant).
Does an anti-oxidant "die" once it's oxidized?
Some anti-oxidants can be resurrected after their self-sacrifice to once again act as molecular heroes against energetic rogues. This is why Vitamin C and Vitamin E are often used in conjunction with each other as Vitamin C is capable of rejuvenating Vitamin E from its oxidized state.
So, why supplement with anti-oxidants in our skincare regimen and in our diets?
Under times of stress (sun exposure, exposure to environmental pollutants (i.e. smog) or illness (overwork, etc.), ROS levels increase and begin to cause damage by ramming into our cells with abundant energy. Anti-oxidant levels are also depleted during times of high stress, so it’s imperative to try to restore and maintain anti-oxidant levels in the body (BOTH topically, especially if we're exposed to the sun or environmental pollutants, but ALSO internally through diet).
Eat your fruits and veggies (for vitamins and other anti-oxidants)
Drink red wine (for the high levels of polyphenols)
Slug green tea (for your catechins)
Devour some dark chocolate (for the anti-oxidant level of course!)
Use Return to Eden Cosmetics products to get your fill of stabilized Vitamin C (water soluble derivative - magnesium ascorbyl phosphate), resveratrol, and Preventhelia (a peptide proven to protect DNA strands from damage and reverse DNA damage post-sun exposure) delivered straight to your skin!
